Welcome to Wiltshire Heritage

The Wiltshire Heritage Museum, together with its associated Library and Art Gallery, holds collections covering the archaeology, recent history, natural history and art of Wiltshire; including what are arguably some of the finest Bronze Age finds to be seen outside London. The collections have been Designated as being a significant part of England’s cultural heritage.

Representative samples of objects on display, or in store, can be viewed using the ‘Galleries’ and ‘Collections’ links above. The collections database is still being developed and new images and records added to it quarterly.

Details of when we are open, how to get here and what we can offer our visitors are available through the links at the top of the page. There are also pages on the events we are holding and all the latest news. Information about our well-stocked research library (open to the public), Education Service, Finds Liaison Officer, the Archaeology Field Group and volunteering opportunities can be found in ‘Services’.

The Museum and Library are owned and operated by the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society (WANHS), a registered charity founded in 1853. Funding comes primarily from private sources, but also through annual grants from Wiltshire County Council, Kennet District Council, Devizes Town Council and parish councils, as well as other sources for specific projects.

The Society has dedicated itself to preserving the rich archaeological and historical treasures and records of Wiltshire, including the World Heritage Site of Avebury and Stonehenge. It aims to foster interest in the areas covered by the collection, and to explore, research and publish information on these subjects for the education and benefit of the public. Membership of the Society is open to anyone with an interest in these subjects. For further information on membership of the Society, including benefits, click here.
