SUMMER EVENTS FOR ALL THE FAMILY
Monday, 19 July, 2010
A Family Day with craft and archaeology based activities for the whole family is being held at the Museum on Sunday 25 July, from 11am to 4pm, as part of the Festival of British Archaeology.
Activities are based on our current exhibition White Horses and Hill Figures and children will be able to carve animals out of chalk (an activity led by the National Trust), paint hill figure designs onto fabric bags, create chalk pictures (which can be entered into our art competition) and take part in our fun gallery quiz. Archaeology themed activities include pottery reconstruction and mock digs in sand pits! Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Museum’s White Horses and Hill Figures exhibition which contains superb aerial photographs of all the county’s white horses – and some from further afield too.
This is a drop in event and families can stay for as long or little as they like. The entrance fee will be £2 for adults, free for children.
In addition to the Family Day there will be holiday workshops for children taking place during the summer holidays. These include art and craft sessions with a dinosaur and fossil theme, textiles days, marine life craft, batik art, a catapult making activity and a chance for young children to make their own treasure chest. Places for these workshops must be booked in advance at the Museum Shop.
Ali Rushent the Museum’s Education Officer said “our art and craft themed Family Days and holiday activities are very popular and I look forward to seeing families taking part and trying something new. Further information about the events and how to enter our art competition are on our website.
